In January, 2008, JTW unveiled a brand new ornament line, "Ino Schaller by Joy To The World." This exciting collection features both glass ornaments designed in the Schaller tradition, and also unique versions of the Schaller paper mache' pieces. This new line is very traditional, yet has an edgy feel as well.
JTW holds the exclusive license with the Schaller Family of Coberg, Germany to create the glass ornament line, inspired by their more than 100 year old tradition of paper mache' items. You will see may of the same Schaller qualities reflected in each of the pieces. Each glass ornament features at least three different, distinct Schaller design directions such as glass beading, chunky glitter accents, even the actual trees and brooms hand made by the Schaller family just for the ornaments.

The paper mache' items have their own unique twist - each JTW paper mache' item comes with a very special surprise in side- a replica mini glass ornament version of the candy container. This is a first for Schaller items and this concept has already been embraced by Schaller collectors. The candy containers are shipped with the mini ornament inside of each container, safely wrapped in a beautiful organza bag.

| JTW will also offer a new paper mache' mold each year. In our inaugural year, you will find a very handsome Penguin paper mache' item that is JTW's own mold. The penguin also comes with its own mini version inside as a bonus. Both the Schaller paper mache' items and the glass ornaments are all created completely by hand in Germany and Poland. A truly European collaboration! |

What is a Kugel? Kugels are the ancestors of Christmas glass ornaments. Kugel is the German word for sphere or ball. In Germany kugels are usually called Biedermeierkugeln which refers to their time of origin, namely the Biedermeier period (about 1830). At that time German glassmakers started a tradition which lasted almost until World War I. One way to identify kugels is by their enormous thickness of glass. Before the invention of the Bunsen burner, it was technically not possible to produce a thin-walled glass. Therefore kugels are rather heavyweight (a problem for Christmas trees with thin branches). Unlike later glass ornaments, kugels do not have the short pike left from the blowing process because it was cut off and what remained was a small hole. This was covered with a brass cap which was fastened to the ornament by a skillfully twisted wire.
This old world tradition is reflected in the Ino Schaller By Joy To The World Collection with three different Kugel ornaments. These pieces have the traditonal Kugel base with a Schaller Santa on top. These pieces truly reflect the German Christmas heritage kept alive by the Schaller Family.
